VDO-X adds Smooth, HTTP Streaming

This entry was posted on May 14 2010

I’m happy to inform you that our CDN software flagship VideoExchange (‘VDO-X’) now offers full support for  Apple HTTP streaming and Microsoft Smooth Streaming.

VideoExchange has been upgraded to fully support the exciting new Wowza Media Server 2. Wowza Media Server 2 offers integrated support for Apple HTTP streaming and Microsoft Smooth Streaming, besides the already supported Flash streaming technologies in Wowza Media Server 1.x. By upgrading a VideoExchange powered CDN with our upcoming release, all customers with a Wowza subcription model can upgrade free of charge.

Enhanced HTTP streaming
Wowza Media Server 2 brings many advantages over regular caching based HTTP streaming technologies, such as one-source, many-outputs, and also session based logging, for detailed traffic and viewing reporting. With the new release, content account owners will be able to setup  live H.264 sourced streams and stream this content to Flash, Silverlight and Apple HTTP compliant clients such as the iPhone and the iPad. These customers will also get the same detailed viewing reports and analytics as they already enjoy with other delivery technologies within a VDO-X powered CDN.

Enhanced asset distribution & live relaying engine
The new VideoExchange release also upgrades our unique dynamic asset distribution engine. VDO-X distributes streaming assets, web assets and relays live streams without the need for caching technologies. The benefit of our engine is that large assets can be distributed faster and with much finer granularity, and 100% guaranteed distribution control. The upgraded VDO-X dynamic asset distribution engine introduces more advanced parallelized processing that speeds up the distribution of large numbers of assets within clusters and to overflow and edge servers and clusters.

Release
We expect to release this new version in 2 – 4 weeks. A beta version has been tested in the last months in our lab, and is now in further internal testing and documentation. As soon as we have the release notes and deployment packages, we will inform all existing VDO-X deployments of the upgrade procedures.
